Makeup Artist Cover Letter Sample

Dear Mr. Boudreaux,

I have been an admirer of the Painted Lady Theatre Company since they first started putting on shows at the Bayside Theatre when I was in grade school. My early experience of seeing the performers in their makeup was one of the contributing factors to my decision to study cosmetology and stage makeup.

I see you need someone who has an understanding of hairdressing as well as makeup. I completed a number of courses in cutting, styling, and coloring and I have had some experience working with wigs as well. While at college I was responsible for designing the makeup and creating hair pieces for the chorus in their production of 'Cats' which I managed on a limited budget. The review in the local paper specifically praised the quality of my work, and all the performers I worked with gave me positive feedback.

I see that you are planning to stage some challenging productions next season, and I believe some of them may require the lead actors to wear prosthetics for their performance. I am currently in the process of completing a course which covers the application of prosthetics for the stage, including the technical and lighting implications of using them. I am on track to pass this course with distinction and expect to have completed it within the next month.

As well as the technical qualifications I have achieved, I also have excellent interpersonal skills which have proved particularly useful when dealing with everyone from actors to directors and technical crew. I have a portfolio of my work which I would love to show you.

Thank you for considering my application, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Katrin Bellevue
