Implement and provide oversight of the radiation safety program for The Nebraska Medical Center radioactive material licenses.
Interpret, implement, and enforce the conditions set forth in the UNMC radioactive material license and all federal, state and local laws which regulate licensed radioactive materials. Supervise staff in the implementation of specific University policies and procedures for program elements concerning licensed radioactive material. Develop and maintain procedure manuals (e.g., Radiation Safety Manual) for Radiation Safety in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
Provide recommendation on the approval of facilities, equipment and procedures used in areas where licensed radioactive materials are handled. Inspect laboratories/waste storage areas and audit departmental operations in order to ensure compliance within the facilities for radioactive material in accordance with all federal, state, and/or local regulations.
Develop and provide training to 1500 badged employees to enhance the level of compliance in institutional laboratories and areas which handle and use radioactive material. Maintain records of training as required by regulatory agencies.
